A New Toy!

My new camera arrived late last week and I am finally having a chance to post some of my first shots. I chose the Nikon D60 with 18-55 mm AF-S VR and 55-200mm AF-S VR Nikkor lenses. So far I have only used the 18-55 mm lens but it's great! It doesn't have a macro lens but it does have a closeup mode which seems to work just a well (at least for my purposes). I was also experimenting with portrait mode.

Lillian has met a new friend.

This rose bud (above) was taken in the closeup mode.

This rose bud was taken in the portrait mode. There is a slight difference in the blurring of the background, but it's not that different.

Thanks Alyson! I got it just in time. We are off on our vacation at the end of the week so it will be fun to have it for that. I'll have some more varied subjects as well - other than flowers and Lillian (not that they're bad subjects).

I love the pictures of your dahlias! That bright, clear pink is so cheery.

I came home to a blowsy, overgrown garden . . . and the weather is too messy for me to want to go outside and clean it up.

Reading back a couple of posts, I noted that you write in your journal every day when you are away. I wish that I had the discipline to write every day. Did you manage to fit in your colored pencils? :)

Bee ~ I hope my discipline in keeping my journal isn't hampered by the small child I now have. We actually are not leaving until this weekend but I do think my art supplies will make the cut :)

I understand how you feel about your garden. I have been super unmotivated regarding the garden lately. I always get sick of gardening around August. The weeds, watering, and dealing with the deer have worn me down. I'm sure in a few days you'll get the urge again, until then you should enjoy being home :)

Cindy, what great photos! How interesting to see the same shot in 2 modes. I think the portrait one is nicer. I finally read through my Nikon D80 manual last night. It's very complicated to master, but there are many interesting features. It's funny that Alyson, you and I all got DSLRs this summer and chose 3 different models. I'm enjoying the results, so keep shooting away and share more good tricks.

I keep a written journal too and have since I was 11 but it's always been sporadic. Glad to hear that you are bringing your art supplies. Don't lose them like I did. Have a great vacation!

Sarah, Yes I like the portrait shot better as well. Those manuals are quite a bear to get through. I made it through mine but I'll have to go over parts again as I glazed over towards the end.
I'm sorry to hear you lost your brushes. I hope you were able to find good ones to replace them!

The flowers are very nice. But the dinosaur shot is great!

Dave ~ Thanks so much for visiting. Little girls make such good photographic subjects, don't ya think ?

Randall ~ that shot is a favorite of mine as well. She was so funny with that dinosaur.
